NSE's own IPO closes 5.71 times subscribed; shares list on BSE, not NSE
The exchange's ₹22,562 crore offer for sale drew bids for 50.58 crore shares against 8.86 crore on offer. Because an exchange cannot list its own shares on itself, NSE's stock is set to debut on rival BSE instead.

The National Stock Exchange of India Limited’s own initial public offering — entirely an offer for sale by existing shareholders — closed on 21 September 2026 subscribed 5.71 times overall, with bids for 50,58,11,384 shares against 8,86,42,911 shares on offer, according to news reports citing exchange bidding data. Shares were scheduled to list on the BSE, not the NSE, on 24 September 2026.
Why NSE lists on BSE
An exchange cannot list and trade its own shares on itself, so NSE’s stock lists on its rival, the BSE, instead. The reverse happened in 2017, when the BSE listed on the NSE. NSE shares were also admitted for trading on the Metropolitan Stock Exchange of India (MSEI) from 24 September 2026, under its ‘permitted to trade’ category, which does not involve a full listing agreement.
