NSE reports ₹2,578 crore profit for July-September, up 23%, in first results since its shares listed

The National Stock Exchange of India's consolidated profit rose 23% to ₹2,578 crore in the September 2026 quarter. Its operating EBITDA, a measure of earnings from operations, more than doubled to ₹3,079 crore.

The National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) reported a consolidated net profit of ₹2,578 crore for the quarter ended 30 September 2026, up 23% from the same quarter a year earlier, according to news reports of its results announced on 3 November 2026. These are the first quarterly results since NSE’s shares listed on the BSE on 24 September 2026, so they are the first the exchange has reported as a listed company.

Key figures for the quarter

Item July-September 2026 (Q2 FY27) Year earlier (Q2 FY26)
Consolidated net profit ₹2,578 crore ₹2,098 crore
Total income ₹4,554 crore ₹4,160 crore
Total expenditure ₹1,161 crore ₹2,354 crore
Earnings per share ₹10.41 ₹8.48

Total income rose about 9.5%. Expenditure fell by about half.

Why expenditure fell and EBITDA doubled

EBITDA stands for earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation. It is a measure of what a business earns from its operations before those items are deducted. NSE reported an operating EBITDA of ₹3,079 crore for the quarter, up 107%, with a reported EBITDA margin of 76%.

The year-earlier quarter included a one-time provision of ₹1,297 crore for settlement fees to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), linked to the colocation and dark fibre matters, according to Business Today. A provision is an amount a company sets aside in its accounts for an expected payment. That item is the main reason expenditure was lower this year. Without it, the year-earlier expenditure would have been about ₹1,057 crore, against ₹1,161 crore this quarter.

Where the income came from

  • Transaction charges, the largest line: ₹3,035 crore, up 9% from ₹2,789 crore.
  • Listing services: ₹150 crore, up 70%.
  • Data feed and terminal services: ₹165 crore, up 43%.

Average daily trading value in the cash market was ₹1,18,377 crore, up 24%. In equity options, measured by premium value, it was ₹47,977 crore, up 3%.
