How the issue is split
The issue is entirely a fresh issue: the company creates new shares and keeps the money. There is no offer for sale (OFS, where existing shareholders sell their own shares and receive the money), so no existing shareholder is selling in this issue.
Anchor investors are large institutions, such as mutual funds and insurers, that bid a day or two before the issue opens to the public. Retail investors are individuals bidding up to ₹2 lakh. Part of the issue is set aside for eligible Reliance Industries shareholders: individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who held Reliance shares on 14 October 2026, subject to the conditions in the prospectus.
What the money is for
According to reports on the prospectus, up to ₹27,500 crore of the proceeds is for repaying or prepaying borrowings of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Jio Platforms. The balance is for general corporate purposes. Tech Times reports that Reliance Industries holds 66.43% of Jio Platforms before the issue.
Where the filing stands
Jio Platforms filed its draft prospectus with the market regulator SEBI on 19 June 2026 and, according to Tech Times, received SEBI’s observation letter on 28 August 2026 (the Economic Times report says only “August”). It filed the red herring prospectus (the offer document filed before the price is fixed) with the Registrar of Companies, Gujarat, on 14 October 2026, and Reliance Industries informed the exchanges the same day.
Basis of these figures
The red herring prospectus and the price band advertisement could not be opened for this article. Every figure comes from published reports and data pages: Upstox (price band, dates, lot size, face value, quotas for employees and Reliance shareholders, registrar, lead managers), Tech Times (use of money, filing history), Chittorgarh (issue size, quota split) and an Economic Times report (fresh issue size, filing dates). They agree on the price band, dates, lot size and issue size. The minimum bid amounts and the ₹30,213 crore figure are our arithmetic (12 × ₹1,119 = ₹13,428; 12 × ₹1,065 = ₹12,780; 27 crore × ₹1,119). This article reports the issue’s terms only. It carries no view on whether to apply and no unofficial pre-listing price data.
